Connection

We are currently offering a speed of 768Kbs down and 256Kbps up. We hope to be able to increase this speed in the future, at no additional cost to our subscribers. We use specially configured routers to allow each individual user to not go over the speed limit, ensuring that one user can't take all the bandwidth.

When you select Internet Service, there are 3 main criteria. You get to select 2 of the values you want, and the other value will be be a number you may not like... For an ISP, the 3 criteria are Speed, Reliability, and Price. If you want High Speed and Good Reliability, then the Price will be high, if you want a cheap price and good reliability, the speed will be slow (dial-up is a good example of this). We try to get a good mix of all 3 values.

Many other systems don't enforce this, and may even distribute speed based on the connections... the problem with this is some users use only a dozen connections (such as surfing the internet) and others can use hundreds (such as a peer-to-peer file sharing program). If the bandwidth control isn't per-user, then the normal internet users get a slower connection when someone with a lot of connections takes all the bandwidth... So our system doesn't allow this.

Some notes about connection speeds. These limits are what our routers impose. The companies we buy our internet service through also have their own issues, and when they have connection or speed issues, that will affect our service as well.

We would like to offer higher speed connections right now, but for high-speed dedicated connections here, it costs about $500 per megabit of connection speed. Just to break even it would mean putting over a dozen users on that limited speed, and it would not be very fast when more than 2 of them were online at once... And so, right now, the speeds we offer are limited. It is fast enough to do normal internet stuff, and we will try to keep the number of users we have per megabit of bandwidth down, so that normally you will have a connection that will work well.

Since we are a wifi network, we have many more challenges that a traditional wired network doesn't have, such as alignment, weather, and more interference. We strive to make sure your connection will be running smoothly 24/7, but problems are inevitable. We will get any problems fixed as soon as we can.
